Tre elever sne 2010Do you have an interest in learning Danish? Or do you need to brush up your grammar and comprehension.

Do you need to learn Danish for practical purposes because you have to study or work in Denmark?

At the Kalø School of Languages we offer an intensive Danish course. Classes will be held throughout the day and, by also taking part in social activities along with Danish students, you will experience Danish morning, afternoon and evening.


That is why you will experience real progress on a daily basis.

Students are divided into groups according to their current ability. Therefore you will always be part of a group with similar experience of the Danish language. It is also possible to move to a class at a more advanced level if your Danish level improves markedly.

FACTS
- You will receive a minimum of 22 lessons of Danish per week.
-  There are lessons at several different levels. 
-  If you are not a citizen of the EU, you must be able to speak English at a basic level in order to be
   granted permission by the Danish authorities to attend courses at the Kalø School of Languages. 
-  The spring term is 22 weeks long; the autumn term is 18 weeks long. 
-  Information regarding exact dates and prices is available with the Application Form. 
- The school will supply a Danish-Danish dictionary. If you prefer other dictionaries, you must buy    
   them at your own cost and bring them to the school. 
-  You are kindly requested to bring your own headphones for pronunciation exercises on the PC.
 

The goals of the course are:
- to speak idiomatic Danish
- to produce grammatically correct texts in Danish
- to gain insight into Danish behaviour and society in order to be successful at work and in the  educational system

Skills developed are:

-  the culture, history and the conventions of Danish society

DANISH & MORE DANISH
...is for those of you who do not have Danish as your first language, but would like to learn the Danish language. Your level is our starting point, whether you are a beginner or simply need to brush up your already good Danish.

You will experience a variety of materials and activities in the classroom. All communication outside the classroom will also be in Danish. You will learn to communicate in written and spoken Danish. It will be possible to change your level of Danish instruction during the course as your Danish skills improve.

If you want to register for an examination, we will help you by sending your application form to the nearby Language Centre, where you can take the exams "Danish 2" and "Danish 3". At the Kalø School of Languages we do not offer exams.

CONVERSATION IN DANISH
The teaching methods in Conversation in Danish include a wide range of conversation exercises, along with general dialogue and expressions.

The content of this English course will be based on reviewing news stories from different international news media. We will discuss current issues and events from an international perspective, which will include political as well as and cultural issues. In order to attend this course, you are required to speak English at a basic level.

Salsa is seductive, exotic and fun. It streng­thens your body and sense of balance, while you are having fun with others to the rhythms of salsa.
 

Outdoor Life
S
unlight in your eyes, frosty air and the stars above you. The central themes of this course are teamwork and teambuilding through physical exercise, and all tutoring takes place outdoors.

A part of the outdoor programme will also contain traditional sporting disciplines such as running, badminton, volley ball, swimming, football, basketball.

How to choose?

You will have a choice of subjects as noted in the examples below:

If the primary goal of your stay is to learn idiomatic Danish, we recommend Danish & more Danish along with Danish Grammar and Danish Pronunciation.

If you are aiming at learning Danish and would also like to sample other courses, we suggest that you attend Danish & more Danish and/or News in English and Choir.

If you are relatively fluent in Danish, we recommend Outdoor Life & English and/or Danish Conversation and Salsa.


FOR ALL STUDENTS
(mandatory) Morning assemblies & joint classes
The morning assemblies and joint classes are meeting points for all students at the Kalø School of Languages. These activities might include lectures in the Auditorium, visits to museums in Aarhus, concerts, cultural evenings and parties or a walk in the forest.

2-Day Excursion & Week Long Study Trip
At the beginning of the term there will be a 2-day excursion to a destination in Denmark where you will experience nature at close hand and get acquainted with your fellow classmates. Also, at the end of the course, we will embark on a week-long study trip. The trip's destination may be Brussels or Berlin - or perhaps a Danish location such as Bornholm or Copenhagen.

Practical Duties
An established rule at the Kalø School of Languages is participation in the upkeep of the school's facilities. It is in the common interest to keep the school and the surrounding areas in good order and condition. Thus you are responsible for cleaning your private quarters as well as the shared facilities in your dormitory. You are also required to participate in the "students-on-duty" jobs such as kitchen duty.
